SSG Kyle, who has been leading 2nd Squad (Rough Riders) since June of 2000, comes to us from JRTC (Joint Rediness Training Center) in Fort Polk, LA, where he served as a member of the infamous OPFOR(Opposing Force), the Cortinian Liberation Force. SSG Kyle has successfully incorporated his experience as a small unit leader in the unconventional OPFOR unit into his current position as an Air Assault infantry squad leader on the DMZ in Korea. His performance during Squad EXEVAL has brought great laudatory remarks from our battalion commander himself.
SSG Kyle, son of Robert James Kyle and Bonnie Yvon Simms, was born on March 18, 1975 in Axis, Alabama, and was raised as an outdoorsman, learning to hunt and track long before he knew how to read and compute. Oldest of three children, he attended Satsuma and Vigor High School, playing every sport offerred in the shcool. He joined the army after one year of college, looking for challenge and adventure. He found both in the elite 82nd Airborne Division with the C/2-505 Infantry. Having learned his trade there as an airborne infantry soldier, he was transferred to Ft. Polk, where he learned to fight in unconventional ways as a leader in a CLF OPFOR unit.
SSG Kyle takes great pride in his platoon, especially his own squad, which he considers, and many agree, to be the best light infantry squad in the battalion, if not the entire 2nd division. His squad performed beyond expectations in the SQD EXEVAL 2000, as well as an OPFOR unit during Foal Eagle 2000. SSG Kyle looks forward to continuing to keep up the high standard for himself and his squad during the rest of his tour in Korea, and hopefully receive RANGER school en route to his next unit.
SSG Kyle has two children, Shana (5), and Justin (2) with his wife, Belinda.
SSG Kyle has sustained a knee injury during a soccer match on 25 novemebr 2000. As a result, he had to sit out both PLT EXEVAL train up and the actual PLT EXEVAL. He is currently recovering and fighting to stay in our platoon as a fighting leader, to lead from the front. Good luck on your recovery, SSG Kyle! We miss you.
