Extremism factions of Islam are at the focal point of modern politics and religious study. Most extremist groups, such as the Kharijites and the Muslim Brotherhood, believe that Islam has strayed from its pure an real meanings, and should thus be brought back to these. Groups like Al Qaeda, meaning base or camp, believe that going back to these pure meanings can only be done by violence to those who "prevent" this from completely occurring. Al Qaeda seeks to overthrow regimes in Arab countries who may be too influenced by the West and ignore their Islamic beliefs. In fact, Al Qaeda botwas, edicts or declarations, have proclaimed that all true Muslim's shou ld kill those of the West. The center of all of these groups and movemets is the Islamic concept of Jihad. These groups have distorted the meaning of Jihad into a violent practice. In reality, Jihad only means struggle; Muhammad uses its true meaning in terms of the struggle inside every human. |
