"Passing over" and "coming back" is the exploration into another culture, religion, or life in order to return to anf enhance one's own culture, religion, or life through greater understanding. The best example of this process is Ghandi, who began and ended his "passing over" and "coming back" "odyssey" in Hinduism, just as we should begin and end our odyssey in our own religion, culture, and/or life. Ghandi's experience caused him to renounce violence and sexuality. When one decides to renounce something they find when the "pass over," they should "transform" it when they "come back." For example, "transforming sexuality into love, and...violence into action." One should never stop this process. One should always be exploring into other cultures, religions, and lives in order to enrich one's own life. When one decides to "pass over," he or she must also decide to bring some of what the find back, and incorporate it into his or her life. One must also see that equal powers are held in both the good and the bad, and he or she must take both back with them. |
