Jimmu- a descendant of the Gods, he is the first human emporer of Japan. His reign began in 660 B.C.E. The Japanese royal family descends from him and is thus revered.

kami - natural and supernatural people and powers present everywhere, amd worshipped by the Japanese since pre-historic times. Kami are offered gifts such as fruit and wine. They may be present in places, people, and nature. People may become kamis, and kamis may become people, too. Things such as the stars, weather, and animals are manifestations of powers beyond humans. Kami are, or contain, these powers.

Miki Nakayama- (1798-1887) foundress of the Japanese religion Tenrikyo. She believed she experienced the kami of Divine Reason, which Tenrikyo reveres, when she was able to heal her son from pain in his leg. She shared her secrets for healing and her teachings are contained in four texts that her followers consider scripture.
