Kanya, AR98, rightly says: "ouch. etymology of 'algia' - pain!!" :-) So here we have - RECalgia - the Nostalgia of REC. Before leaving REC I compiled an album for myself which had songs that I, personally, associated with REC for some reason or other. However the following list is of numbers which have become a part of REC memory through some public event. "jora-jori channe kae khet mai-n" - Closing down of some cultural event in 95-96. With my classmates- Sandhya Nambiyar, Shweta Shah and ??? doing a la Madhuri on Audi stage. "sexy sexy sexy mujhae log bolai-n" - Wheels'96 - everyone was requesting the song at the drop of a hat and esp when Ms.Priya Singh was on skates. Later, in fact she herself played it for her jrs. How sporting! An RECicon, wasn't she ? Pity, she decided to leave sooner than later. "chura kae dil mera goriya chali" & "aankon main base ho tum" - Philips top 10 in'96-7. when even guys like Nautiyal too jammed in the common rooms - whenver Shilpa Shetty or Sonali Bendares graced the idiot box in front of hundreds of REC accomatised, salivating, derpived souls onto the red carpet. "tu hai meri kiran" - "Darr", the rise (and subsequent fall) of Shahrukh Khan and "Blue Diamond(or ???)" theatre. And re-emeregence of Jeep shows with it - despite the new rates of INR 140/-. (And it's Rs 220/- per show now!). "mustafa mustafa" - The talli ideas of romaniticism creep into macho hearts of REC as '96 dragons bid adieu. And the emotional outpouring by the F.Y. guys when the whole hostels went "mustafa mustafa" in unison... silent tears rolling down not-so-slient cheeks. 97 batch spls: "East or west, India is the best" - Anu Malik never got so much of an audience b4 when Rajiv Pillai pumped his Madonna-pelvis to the beats of this "judwaa" song. F-hostel pre'97 New year eve, With sem exams prep break to get over in just 2 days. Finally, much awaited college-band stuff: "What's going on"- Ah! Geena George's own song. And she loved doing this great number from "Train" by 4 Non Blondes. And we loved her doing it. But we loved everything she did! A natural show(wo)man. 91-95. Congrats Reuben, u've the most precious REC gem in your care. "Summer of'69" - Hate Adams or unhate him. But You did move. When Brackets rocked the whole REC, with Georgie on guitars. [Btw, For "Brackets" etymology: ask Geena!]. "Sultans of Swing" - And Georgie proves his "mettle" when u wondered if Mark Knophler was a Mallu. OAT was the last time we heard it. "Circles in the sand" - And as the Sultans were onto their last show we saw a new voice join REC imagery that night. Manjusha; REC-Rock-o-fying the 80s Pop-diva Belinda Carlisle. Wow! Did I forget "smoke on the water..." ??? It was mimed I think. ;-) And of coz, the whole razzle-dazzle of numbers from Nirvana to Pinkfloyd by one of the finest bands in the country, Dread Locks, when the 97 batch, WE, were leaving. But it was more of a single great event in REC rather than a song we can put in RECalgia. Please mail to me if you think something is missing here or needs to be changed.
