Lauren Christy (1993) Mercury Records 512 719-2 |
Lauren: "Everything is based on personal experience. That's what interests me, and if it's not about
me personally, it's about friends of mine who I've come into contact with and got involved in the situations."
Lauren: " 'Vanessa's Father' is about a young girl who's best friend's father becomes obsessed with
her, and it's a kind of 'Lolita' type thing. You know, she obviously looks up to him, and he thinks she's wonderful and,
you know, so the story goes.... And the intensity grows and she notices that he's watching her the whole time, and, uh, you
know, eventually the inevitable happens... When you're fifteen years old, you know, you can look older. I certainly did.
And, uh, is that child abuse? Is that sexual abuse to somebody who's fifteen who is returning those feelings to somebody
and does feel, you know, ...passion. "It wasn't really a happy ending. For me it was actually a really evil ending,
because, obviously, this man was married, he had children, it's my best friend..."
The re-release of this album contains the song Lauren wrote for the movie "Color of Night" as a bonus
track.

Breed (1997) Mercury Records 314 534 876 4/2 |
|
"The new Lauren disc is ... well different... it sounds somewhat 'grungy', as if the record company
wanted her to be another Alanis Morisette. It just doesn't sound as beautiful and lush as the debut album. However, my
partner listened to Breed twice and thought it was pretty good, though different from the first album...
I guess different people have different opinions (I guess that's what makes the world go 'round!)." Patrick Hnidka |

"I have been listening to the new Lauren Christy album, "Breed". I love it! At the moment I can't
say I have a favorite song, though some are emerging. "Magazine" is nice. And there are some lyric images that are
especially nice -- the thought of her barefoot, approaching on a bridge, for one. Wow! Just think of it! There are some
others, too. Some are erotic; some are disturbing; some are both. The album has a harder edge than her first, but it was
done intelligently." Robert Folsom |
The liner notes:
|
Lauren Christy returns after her eponymous debut release with her new album "Breed". This British
native, who presently lives in Los Angeles, brings us an album that showcases who she is as a person and as an artist.
From the opening seconds of "Breed," you realize that this album represents a new direction for Lauren. Whether it's the
anthemic "I Want What I Want" and hard-edged "Magazine," to the mainstream "Burn" (duet with Gary Clark) and the brooding
"The Night I Saved Peter Ustinov," you'll soon see that Lauren is a major artist to contend with, and "Breed" is an album
we can all be proud of. |
