Midnight on a Country Road

-

Hard gravel road chews

soles of my feet winding

more than before, wearing me down

-

Breath-stopping scurry

of night creatures besides

pounding heart and steps, only sound

-

Chill wind sweeps away

last trace of clouds leaving

star-dusted trail, dies task complete

-

Glance turns to gaze held

by countless stars twinkling

on black, my thoughts turn to sleep

-

My tired eyes lower

the ground seems gone liquid

lights at my feet,

mime the sky

-

Small still roadside pond

reflects what's above

infinite space, where moon and stars fly

They seem to slow overhead

a pause just to admire

themselves in this, heavens mirror
