Often this is due to the sudden feeling of release and freedom that accompanies emergence from a life-long existence in the closet. While I would do and say nothing to dampen that joy, I urge you to be aware that bad people exist, and to protect yourself and your assets.
Before you reveal personal information about yourself or agree to meet a stranger, try to assess them carefully, and if you and a new lover do meet, fall in love, and decide to set up housekeeping together, don't immediately begin that joint bank account. Establish a respectable "trial period" before you take that step. Things may look quite different 3 months down the road when you discover that that handsome young man has an alcohol or drug problem, and your shared bank account has been drained of funds!
It is one of the finest things about human nature that we often wish to help those less fortunate, but use common sense before you adopt that fellow who's "rough around the edges, but with stars in his eyes." Be sure to include the other people in your life in the joy of your new relationship. If something is amiss, it's easier for a more detached friend to see it than ourselves, when we're in that place where all we can see is hearts and flowers and fireworks!
I'm on this soapbox out of affection and respect for those friends who have had their lives turned upside-down by this type of thing.
