The Walk

Bass

Riff 1

Riff 1A

G:---2---2-------------------------
D:-----------5---5---2---2---2---2-
A:-0---0---------------------------
E:---------3---3---0---0---0---0---

Here are some riffs used to go into changes
I've heard it used live to go into riff 2.

Riff 1B

G:---2---2---4---4---------------
D:-------------------2---2---2---
A:-0---0---2---2-----------------
E:-----------------0---0---0---0-

Here's another way I've heard this done, I've heard Phil do this either on the 1984 concert cd or the Live in Japan video.

Riff 1C

G:---2---2---4---4---9---9---9---9-
D:---------------------------------
A:-0---0---2---2---7---7---7---7---
E:---------------------------------

Riff 1D

G:---------------------------------
D:---9---9---7---7---2---2---2---2-
A:---------------------------------
E:-7---7---5---5---0---0---0---0---

Riff 2

(used the 2nd half of verses)
1st time "we walked around the lake.."
2nd time "I kissed you in the water.."

Riff 2

G:-----------2------------------
D:---5---5---------2---2---2----
A:---------0---0----------------
E:-3---3---------0---0---0---0--

Riff 3
(played after 2nd verse)

I don't think I've heard this used live but I've heard it on the studio version. Live eg: In Orange Simon just plays the main riff instead.

G:-----------------------------0---
D:---0-2-0---0-2-0---2-0-2-0-2---2-
A:---------------------------------
E:-0-------0-------0---------------

Riff 4
Used the 2nd time Robert sings:
"I kissed you in the water"

Riff 4A

G:---5---5---5---5---4---4---4---2-
D:---------------------------------
A:-3---3---3---3---2---2---2---0---
E:---------------------------------

I've also heard this very slight variation.
Sometimes I play Riff 4A then 4B right after

Riff 4B

G:---5---5---5---5---4---4---2---2-
D:---------------------------------
A:-3---3---3---3---2---2---0---0---
E:---------------------------------

Which ever you choose, play it twice then go back to riff 2, by then the lyrics will be "I saw you look like a Japanese baby.."
