Genealogy
General and SpecificMy father, Donald Eugene Hill, 1915 - 1986, instilled a sense of history, both familial and cultural, in me. Lewis Palmer, my mother's second cousin, compiled, wrote and edited a wonderful history of the Palmer family in Whitley County, Indiana.
Palmer, Lewis E. and Virginia Porter Palmer
The Samuel and Sarah (Skinner) PALMER FAMILY from Vermont and Ohio to Whitely Country, Indiana. 1991. Self Published. Valparaiso, Indiana.
Being human, Lewis and his wonderful wife Virgina, included a few minor errors in this work. Eventually, I hope to have corrections to this wonderful compilation linked to this page.I've been bitten by geneaology bugs that seem to travel with both sides of my family and now my husband has a great deal of information to add to what I want to assemble for my daughter. In spite of all this, I'm not a genealogist. I'm more of a cultural anthropologist and historian with lots of family data upon which to draw. Family patterns and practices through time intrigue me. How can you know where you are going if you don't know where you been (and come from)?
The Links on this page are some of the most useful links I've found for general, state and county, non United States based, and map based research. I hope some of them are of help to you.

These are The USGenWeb Archives Project, The USGenWeb Tombstone Project and The USGenWeb Census Project.

This project and all of its strictly volunteer staff are dedicated to free, online access for the general public.

Transcripts, extracts and abstracts will be accepted and files will be placed in the USGenWeb Archives directory of the State and County of principal residence of the Pensioner.
Special Collections Project was developed in January 2000 to cover special data as not all submitted data fell into the standard state/county category, but covered multiple counties or states.Special Collections also provides an entry page to scanned out-of-print books on family studies, historical books and various journals permanently stored in the USGenWeb Archives for free access.
The USGenWeb Tombstone Project was started to encourage people to walk cemeteries and donate copies of the surveys to The USGW Archives.

Conscious of the fact that sharing information or data with others, whether
through speech, documents or electronic media, is essential to family
history research and that it needs continuing support and encouragement,
responsible family historians consistentlyrespect the restrictions on sharing information that arise from the rights
of another as an author, originator or compiler; as a living private
person; or as a party to a mutual agreement.observe meticulously the legal rights of copyright owners, copying or
distributing any part of their works only with their permission, or to the
limited extent specifically allowed under the law's "fair use" exceptions.identify the sources for all ideas, information and data from others, and
the form in which they were received, recognizing that the unattributed use
of another's intellectual work is plagiarism.respect the authorship rights of senders of letters, electronic mail and
data files, forwarding or disseminating them further only with the sender's
permission.inform people who provide information about their families as to the ways
it may be used, observing any conditions they impose and respecting any
reservations they may express regarding the use of particular items.require some evidence of consent before assuming that living people are
agreeable to further sharing of information about themselves.convey personal identifying information about living peoplelike age, home
address, occupation or activitiesonly in ways that those concerned have
expressly agreed to.recognize that legal rights of privacy may limit the extent to which
information from publicly available sources may be further used,
disseminated or published.communicate no information to others that is known to be false, or without
making reasonable efforts to determine its truth, particularly information
that may be derogatory.are sensitive to the hurt that revelations of criminal, immoral, bizarre
or irresponsible behavior may bring to family members.©2000 by National Genealogical Society. Permission is granted to copy or
