Cumbria Stud History

The stud began registering cattle in 1975 after breeding commercially for two years and was a foundation member of the Australian Belted Galloway Breeders Association in 1975.

In order to get a wider gene pool we decided to upgrade from registered black and dun Galloways using pure Belted Galloway Bulls.

Original cattle purchased from Midfern Glenkelso Goronga & Glenblairie and belted Bulls from Midfern and New Zealand have been used.

We began showing cattle in 1984 and since then have exhibited the Champion Belted Bull at Melbourne in 1985,1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Also the best junior in 1984, 1986, 1990 and 1991. We were also the most A successful exhibitor in 1985. 1986 and 1990.

We have shown at many country shows with success including Supreme Cattle exhibit at Tyrendarra in 1986 from 92 exhibits.

Cattle from Cumbria have been sold to Tasmania, New South Wales, Western Australia as well as Victoria as herd foundations.
