Aaron Tate was born in 1972 in Philadelphia and grew up in Houston.
During college, he met Cliff Young and they formed a band named
Caedmon's Call. He soon quit performing with the band, but continued
songwriting for them.
He composed the entirity of Caedmon's Call's breakthrough
independent
album, My Calm//Your Storm. Four of his songs have hit #1 on Christian
radio charts. Over two million albums with his songs are in print.
In 2001, Caedmon's Call began pursuing a more pop, mainstream CCM
style of songwriting and became less interested in his renegade,
lyrically-complex songs. That same year, he began to feel "used up"
as a songwriter and wished to stop while he still had "some edge."
In the summer of 2002, ten years after forming the band, he severed
his relationship with Caedmon's Call, leaving an albums worth of songs
unrecorded.
He has worked as a VISTA, a freelance writer, a cafeteria worker, a waiter,
a warehouse picker, a tutor, an artist manager, and a secretary. He has a
Masters in Theology from Wheaton College, IL.
He currently lives in Houston with his wife and two sons. He is director
of a non-profit agency that serves refugees from around the world.
