JUNE 27, 2007; LONDON (Reuters):
The Duke of Wessex, Robert Lancaster II, has abdicated. His son,
Edward James Lancaster, who is only five years old, will assume the
title, lands, and fortune of the Duchy of Wessex upon reaching the age
of eighteen. Until that time, Edward's mother Stephanie - the
ex-wife of the now former Duke - will act as regent.
Robert Lancaster assumed the Duchy in 1993 upon the death of both
parents in a plane crash at London's Heathrow airport. He became
a contracted star in several professional wrestling organizations, and
reached the pinnacle of his profession in 2003 and 2006, winning the
Coalition of Affiliated Leagues' World Heavyweight Tag Team
Championship, and Old Line Wrestling's (OLW) Heavyweight Championship,
respectively.
The former Duke has also courted controversy in the past, with an
affair with a former business associate making headlines in Europe,
which allegedly brought him a reprimand from the Queen.
Misfortune also struck him in the past several months, when his now
late wife, Marissah Whitely-Lancaster, Duchess of Wessex, was
assassinated by a former employee of the family Estate in Wessex.
Mr. Lancaster still maintains employment with OLW as the company's
commissioner, and now resides in Toronto.
