We are in the process ourselves of collecting signatures for a Petition to stop the breeding of Saint Bernards and their use as food in China. No dog or cat is designed as a food source for humans however we are in a strong position wherein our (western breed) dogs are being used - our culture and our heritage is being threatened and the people of the world are reacting well. I have studied as much as I can on the chinese culture and have found that the Cantonese are the omnivorous ones who have introduced the chinese to the "delicacy" of dog meat.

NZ this year signed a joint venture with China to supply thousands of tons of beef to them - so why the dogs? I know they also breed thousands and thousands of beef themselves along with pigs, chickens, sheep, deer, not to mention other staple food so again why the Saints? For the first time ever the practice of eating dogs has come into the open and the world is horrified - so many people did not know it existed. We will not have Asian countries coming into our countries to take animals we regard as members of our family and our companions for food - a great man once said The Petition is asking for the closure of the Saint breeding facilities and the return of the dogs - China has said they want to go into the 21st Century with a better relationship with the world so as a matter of good will they will comply to these wishes or become the most hated country ever. The choice will be theirs.
