The Avengers, unlike most Cult Classics, actually enjoyed a degree of success while in its original airing. Still, despite its initial international popularity, it has become a true Cult Classic due to not only its own campy appeal, but the adoration it evokes from its loyal fans.
On-Air for 6 seasons, its official Star Patrick Macnee has long since been over shadowed by the "appeal" of his Season 4 & 5 co-star, the incomparable Diana Rigg.
It is sad to note that Hollywood had the opportunity to make a grand film version to honor the majesty of the history of its source material and utterly failed to do so! The product they released was a blasphemy to its forerunner.
