Why the heck is Gus dressed as a UVA cheerleader???

First of all, I just want to say, that Gus is probably the most attractive UVA cheerleader that I have ever seen wearing the orange and blue.  He certainly puts the current UVA squad to shame!  Also, Gus wants you to know that he, in no way, enjoyed being decked out in such a putrid outfit.

At any rate, here's the story:  When Sara was born, several of our friends and relatives sent us little outfits related to their college affiliations.  We got a Penn State outfit from Karen and Charlie, a Susquehanna outfit from Tony and Kathy and a UVA outfit from Uncle Steve (a graduate of UVA and UVA Law.)  While the Penn State and Susquehanna outfits were acceptable to mommy and daddy, the UVA outfit just did not do anything for daddy, he being "the Anti-Wahoo" and all.

About the time that mommy and daddy opened the UVA package, poor Gus (our standard red Dachshund) walked up looking for a pat on the head.  Daddy suddenly had a devilish idea!  Wouldn't it be fun to turn the joke around on Uncle Steve, and put Gus in the outfit?!!  In the blink of an eye, daddy had put the abominable outfit on Gus.  Gus, in total shock and disbelief, simply rolled over on his side in shame and self-loathing.  Daddy took several pictures and sent one of them to his internet friend "Java Hokie" to be scanned.  Now Gus is a famous internet celebrity, gracing the pages of several Hokie loyalists.

P.S. - I have gotten several questions about the button Gus is wearing in the picture.  The text on the button says "Wahoos Suck."  While rather blunt, it certainly sums up the feelings of most of the Hokie faithful.  I purchased the button from someone who was hawking them in front of the stadium on a game day back in the early '80's.  Haven't seen any more of them since.  Hmmm...sounds like an idea for a marketing campaign.
