hipposelinum levisticum levisticum officinale levisticum paludapifolium ![]() Perennial AKA European Lovage Garden Lovage lavose sea parsley In excessive doses, it can cause kidney damage; should not be used by those with kidney problems. Promotes onset of menstruation. Should not be used during Pregnancy. CULINARY Thanks for the lovage information I tend to use in like celery when cooking. Carrots are really good when cooked with a beef roast, lovage and fresh parsley. *smile* I'll bet it would be good in stir-fry, rather like diced celery. Mine looks great but hasn't blossomed yet. It's a perennial, so blooming shouldn't hurt it any; it's sort of like letting a carrot go to seed. I don't have any recipes, but one of my herb books say that the leaves and stems have been a soup and stew ingredient "ever since classical antiquity." You can cook the root too, of course, but then it's goodbye lovage plant. Seeds in breads, butters, and cakes; teas; leaves in soup, stew, cheese, cookies, and chicken dishes; root edible. ACTIONS |
