Heroes don't come much more deadly or desirable than this...

Patriot - Assassin - Spy - Comedian - Marksman - Detective - Pilot - Thief - Driver - Lover - Gambler - no woman could ask for more!
James Bond
Codename 007, Licenced to kill,
Member of MI6 department, On Her Majesty's Secret Service
James has been tirelessly working for the Britsh Government for the past 50 years, with his first mission details being released in print for public viewing in 1953 - "Casino Royale".

Obviously, no mere mortal could keep in top physical shape for that long - the man would have to be about 80 years old now.  So what is his secret?
Is he genetically enhanced to lead a super-long lifespan?  If so, he must also be undergoing regular plastic surgery, as the missions that have been released in visual format show a number of different visual identities.  However, this would explain the man's amazing recuperative powers.  A severely damaged shoulder in the "The World Is Not Enough" mission only slowed him down when direct pressure was applied by the villain of the piece.

Is there more than one man behind the agent - is the name "James Bond" also just a codename?  This would explain the different faces, the regular ageing/de-ageing that occurs on face changes, and also the fact that the man is constantly loyal to the same job and country, with no signs of tiredness, weakness or lack of determination.  Still, the agent chosen to take on the role of James would need to be exceptional - he has to learn a new persona, family background, and style of being.  All reference to his own family and past must disappear to be replaced by the James character.

A third theory was suggested to me after someone read this - maybe he's a Timelord (a Gallifrean, the same race as Doctor Who)?!  This would explain the regeneration with a different face.  However, I think that the double heart may have been noticed on his trip to a public health farm, although I'm sure the agency doctors would be clued in on his abnormalities.  This requires further investigation...
