The Great Vegemite Taste Test
This page is dedicated to those brave Americans who taste tested Vegemite at the SOFT conference in Florida 2000
Here's a story of man name Jim,
poor fellow!
There was no bread available for breakfast this morning so Jim, desperate to taste this wonderful delicacy, dipped a spoon into the jar!!
mmm, mmm just hold that pose please Jim while three or four people snap a picture!!!
mmmm tastes like anchovies according to Jim.
Ok today we have bread!!!
This is Fawna, tentatively tasting this piquant paste.  Small bites of the little sandwich and the verdict is.......

tastes like anchovies to Fawna too.
Philina was VERY keen to try Vegemite.  After some nice big bites the whole sandwich disappeared!!!
Now in some countries a nice big belch signifies that the diner has enjoyed their meal, well Philina must have REALLY loved vegemite!!!  Need I say more????  :o))
Of course Doug, being the Enginerd that he is, took the scientific approach.  He totally checked out the sandwich, smell, look and feel.  Tasted a small amount and just said mmmmm.
Now Janet... mmm I don't actually remember her tasting that sandwich (correct me if I'm wrong) but wouldn't she make a great ambassador for Vegemite check that smile.  And like the song says "We're happy little Vegemites"
Recently on a trip to Central Australia I read an article in a newspaper which I tried to upload for you to read but was unsuccessful so I have transcribed it's contents here:
Vegemite banned in the US
The USA has banned vegemite, with Australians now being searched for jars of the spread as they enter the country.
The crackdown was prompted because Vegemite has been deemed illegal under American food laws because it contains folate, which can only be added to breads and cereals in the US.
Kraft spokeswoman Joanna Scott said: "The (US) FDA doesn't allow the import of vegemite simply because the recipe does have the addition of folic acid."
She said the US was a minor market for vegemite.
Australian expats in the US said the ban had been gradually stepped up and was now ruining breakfast traditions.
Personally I think this ban is wrong and if I ever return to the US I plan on bringing in vegemite.  And SAOs as bread in the US is full of sugar and tastes really disgusting with vegemite anyway.  We have been bought up on the stuff it is good for you the US FDA is crazy!  OB's suggest women increase their intake of folate when planning a family as it has been proven to reduce neural tube defects in newborn babies.  It's good stuff!!!
