I think D.A.R.E. is a great program because it teaches kids and preteens about the dangers of drugs.  I love learning about the different kinds of drugs and how harmful they are to your body.
The information that I've learned will help me through the next few years...especially the peer pressure and learning how to be assertive.  Knowing these two things alone will help me to say "NO" when I have to.
I've also learned about other "killers" by the name of cigarettes and alcohol. They are just as bad as drug abuse. I know from personal experience the affects of what drug abuse and cigarettes can do to one's mind and body. Someone I love very much used crack cocaine and has spent at least three years in prison, not counting all the times he was in jail. I remember him also being a very mean person to other people in my life. Drugs are not a joke, they have dangerous, mind altering effects.
Another personal experience I have is that I know someone who is dying from a disease called emphysema from smoking over forty years.  Smoking makes your lungs black and makes it hard to breathe. It also makes your teeth yellow and your breath smell bad.
It is important to me to be drug free because I want to live a productive life and be a good citizen. I want to set a good example for people around me and  be a great role model for my future children.
