My first Irish Setter was bought in Somerset, U.K. in 1969 from a breeding combining the Brendower and Halstock lines.

We live in southwestern Connecticut and usually have six housedogs.  Our complement today range from 18 months to fifteen years of age.

We have averaged a litter every three and co-bred the Cucuhullain F litter with Phyllis Wier .

My original puppy was bought as a pet. She had a wonderful personality, attitude, nice dark coat, beautiful movement and of course the wonderful head planes of the English dogs. The problem was to combine the attributes we had with the best of the American. In this quest I was lucky to be able to breed to the great Ch. Bayberry Kincaide and all my subsequent dogs are based on this breeding.

Among the attributes of the Irish Setter I count beauty, tractability, intelligence, stamina, attitude and energy. They have a fine sense of fun and are totally devoted.

My objective is to breed a biddable, devoted companion of show quality confirmation which can compete against all comers and live to a ripe old age free of displasia, epilepsy and other debilitating illnesses.

I don’t have a  “most important dog”, although I suppose that Am/Can Ch. Cucuhullain Chelsea Morning was the first of my dogs that people remember. Bred once to her half brother Am/Can Ch. Courtwood Summer Forecast she produced the Cucuhullain Diamond Litter (and  Dr. Seuss). Can Ch. Cucuhullain Diamond Summer died at age three, but before I lost him and through the generosity of Ann Marie Kubacz (Ramblin’ Red Irish Setters) I was able to lease Ramblin’ Red Iaslinn to whom he was bred. This breeding  produced the  Cucuhullain Eternal litter which  had three  “firsts” at the 1989 National one of which was Winners’ dog  from the Novice class. Seven “Eternals” were shown at this   National and each one placed. Ch. Cucuhullain  Eternal Prince was bred to Am/Can Ch Cucuhullain Diamond Morning and they produced a litter in which four pups survived which included Ch Cucuhullain Good Fortune now making his name as a stud dog. His littermates Ch Cucuhullain Good Morning and Ch. Good Vibrations are also Speciality winners. A subsequent litter includes a National Best in Sweepstakes winner, Ch Cucuhullain Just so Special who is the dam of our latest litter born in   July 2002

Their pictures are included here!
