We graduated from Tiger Cubs, and we've now joined Cub Scouting! We're the Wolf Den 1 of Pack 549... come join our adventure!

- Our den theme for June was "Learning Our Cub Scout Responsibilities". We followed the Bobcat trail, and learned the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout Motto. These are the 3 most important things we must learn because they will help us through all of the trails of Scouting. Most of us completed the Bobcat trail and later got our Bobcat badge. We also did our "Ethics in Action" den program where we learned about the do's and don'ts of being a friend. We learned about being friends and being a team. Many of us also went to the Frontier District's Cub Scouting Day Camp at the Soshenean Park in Norwalk, where we had lots of fun stuffs like archery, soccer, crafts, games, arts, and many more.

- In July, our den theme was "Our American Heritage". We had games, songs and made a scrapbook to celebrate our American Heritage. We also learned about our flag, how to show respect to our flag, and how to fold it. We did the flag ceremony at our Pack meeting. We also learned about reading and writing. We visited the Los Angeles County Regional Library in Norwalk, and learned our way around, thanks to Ms. Debbie. We also had a story telling. Back at our den, we learned about becoming a good reader. We played a game called "Library Treasure Hunt, in search of ... Books". It's a game about the mysteries of the card catalog.

- August is the month we learned about safety. Our theme was "Safety First". We visited the Fire Station #30 in Cerritos. Thanks to all who toured us around the fire station. Now we know what's the difference between a fire engine and a fire truck. Do you? For our den project, each of us made a fire escape route plan for our home, ... we did it of course with our families. The family is the safety team at home you know. We also did a "Safety At Home" poster, which we displayed at our Pack meeting.

- The highlight of the month is going on a Family Camping with our Pack to Lake Cachuma. We had fun fishing, boating and going on a nature trail hike. The campfire was great, along with the skits and games. Back home, we went to the Frontier District's Cub-O-Ree, and played archery, physical fitness, ultimate, and many other fun Cub Scouting activities.

The Cub Scout theme for this month was "Be a Detective". We had games and made crafts at our den meetings: invisible ink, using secret codes, a telephone made from an old garden hose, pie-tin washer toss game, and marble sharpshooter.

- We had fun with Science this month. We put on our lab gowns and did many exciting experiments. We played with magnets, and built our own electromagnets. We played with static electricity, blowing up a balloon, rubbing it against our hair many times to give it an electric charge, and holding it near bits of tissue paper. Guess what happened next?

We went to outerspace, and took pictures of Saturn... Well it was make believe, of course. Each of us played the role of a part of a satellite, (like the camera, antenna, computer, etc., etc., etc.), linked together to form the satellite, launched from Earth as we counted down 10, 9, 8, ..., and blasted off to Saturn, (played by Rod, our Assistant Den Leader), navigated by Rey, our Den Leader, and Bob, our Assistant Den Leader. Here's our picture as you can see.

This month, we celebrated Halloween. Our Pack went to a Pumpkin Patch, and later had a Halloween Party, where everyone came in costumes, and brought their decorated pumpkins. Two of us Wolves, Jose and Lance, won in the Pumpkin Decoration Contest. Congratulations! How about a big hand for them.

- This month we worked on our Citizenship program. We made an American collage, and completed many of our Wolf Arrow Point Trail electives that taught us about good Citizenship, as a Cub Scout, both at home and away from home. We learned about sign language, and did our Cub Scout Promise in sign language. Our Pack held its Annual Pinewood Derby this month, too. Congratulations to our fellow Wolves, Ronald, Danny and Lance, who won the Wolf Den competion, and went on to compete in the Pack finals.

Finally we learned about conservation, as four of us, Marc, Jose, Lance and Ronald, went to a tree seedling planting event at The ShadeTree Partnership nursery at the University of California, Irvine. The seedlings we planted will grow in the nursery for the next two years. When they are of proper size, then they will be planted at schools and parks. We'll have another den trip in February so that the rest of our den can participate.

- 'Tis the holiday season, and we're off to celebrate. We started the month with a Bowling Tour at the Keystone Lanes in Norwalk. We also joined our fellow Cub Scouts of the Frontier District at a Bike Rodeo, and later at the City of Downey Holiday Parade. December was also the time for our Pack's Mistletoe Fund Raiser. Two of us Wolves, (Ryan and Jose), and their dads, went with the Pack to harvest mistletoe at Lytle Creek. Our Den then later had a Christmas party at our Den Leader's home, where we packaged the mistletoe. We had fun at our party. We played ring toss, bean bag toss, puddle jumpers, obstacle race, (our dads played too. They're slow.), and broken car team race. And what's a party without food to feast? We had lots of it of course. We also exchanged Christmas gifts.

Christmas is a time of giving, and we also helped other people this holiday season. We went Caroling with our Pack at the Downey Care Center, and donated toys through the Frontier District to the Los Angeles County Children and Family Services.

- January is the month we prepare for our Blue and Gold Annual Banquet in February, celebrating the birthday of Scouting. We made our very own invitation cards, created our centerpiece for the banquet, and of course practice our skit. We went Whale Watching from Port O' Call with our Pack. Yes, we saw whales! We saw dolphins, too.

It's February and it's time for our Blue and Gold Banquet... to celebrate Scouting's birthday! Our Blue & Gold theme this year is Carribean. It was a real fun night. Aside from the traditional skits, we also had a Parent-Son Jello-sculpture contest. Congratulations to our fellow Wolf, Jose, for winning in the "Most Humorous" category! Check out one of the skits we did, (Return to our Wolf menu and click on Skits, games, tours). This month, we also learned at our den meetings our first knots, the overhead and square knots, played the Knot Race game, and worked on our Cub Adventure Award for Jungle Book-Mowgli Award. We joined our Pack on a field trip to the Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. Finally, at our Pack meeting, we received our Sports Belt Loop for Basketball. W're in the Norwalk Small Fry Basketball League, playing on the same team... the Raptors.

The Cub Scouting theme for March is "Gateway to the Orient". This month, we learned about the Japanese art of paper folding called "Origami". We also played a Philippine game called "Sipa", which is a kid's game version of the footbag. We also had the Ethics in Action this month during our den meetings, learning about what friends do and don't do. This was another busy month for us. We went with our Pack on a day hike at the San Juan Loop in Orange County. We also completed with our Pack the Crime Prevention Award. We joined our fellow Cub Scouts from the Frontier District at the Skating Night held at the Skating Depot in Cerritos, CA.

Well, we're getting closer to our graduation in June, but we still have two exciting months as Wolves, before we become Bears. Checkout our activities for April in our Monthly Planner and come back again ... thank you!
