WELCOME TO MY MURS PAGE.
Murs is a relatively new radio service. The service is just now in Late July 2001 getting used by me. I have been wondering about MURS since December of 2000 if MURS was for me. I knew last year I started with FRS and thought it was very over rated. 2 mile radius my foot. 2 blocks is my motto for FRS! MURS operates on 5 formerly low power VHF business band frequencies as compared to the UHF of FRS. The Frequencies are: 151.820, 151.880, 151.940, 154.580 and 154.600. These frequencies may now be used license free by the public for virtually any use for example commercial, or families. MURS is limited to 2 watts Transmitter Power! Erp is not limited as of new rulings!. Murs allows for external antennas and for data transmissions. Murs can be a better use then FRS as most MURS radios boast up to 5 miles in clear open areas. I made it about 2 1/2 with my mv21cv Motorola Spirits. That is in a city though. I fully stand behind the FCC and back them for giving the PUBLIC another free band. The FCC in the past has given free bands and they have been ruined by rebels and power hogs, one such band is the AM CB band which being a low frequency is more affected by skip then MURS will be. MURS allows for image and data transmissions so that means video and packet radio types are available for use license free. MURS was added to the Citizen's Band Radio Service and is the only unlicensed band of its kind. . |
