| Phantom Planet started out with Darren and Jason in school. Jason knew Alex since elementary school. Jacques and Sam knew each other in High School. One day Jason heard Jacques play in a store and asked him to come play with him, Alex and Darren. When Jacques went to play with them, he brought Sam along and that's when they formed the band in a Pizza Hut in 1994. They named themselves after the old sci-fi movie, The Phantom Planet. In 1997 they got a deal with Geffen Records, with the label they released their debut abum, Phantom Planet Is Missing. The album did not do too well so they were then dropped from the label. In 2001 they went back to the studio. A year later Epic Records released their follow-up album, The Guest and they began touring. The album did well but they were still unknown in the mainstream music industry. In May 2003, Jason Schwartzman announced that he would be leaving to pursue his acting career. They still remain good friends. After the departure of Jason, Phantom Planet began rehearsing with Jeff Conrad, the former drummer of Siren Six and Big City Rock. Jeff then became a permanent member and began touring with them in the fall. | ||||||||||
