A boys first step after registering as a Cub Scout, regardless of his age, is to pass the Bobcat requirements. They are:
Learn and give the Cub Scout Promise.
I,.............promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack
Repeat and explain the Law of the Pack.
The Cub Scout follows Akela.
Akela is a good leader.
Your father or mother is Akela.
In your pack, your Cubmaster is Akela.
Your den leader is Akela.
At school, your teacher is Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the Pack go.
Come to all the meetings. Do what you can to help.
Think of others in the pack.
The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
You can have fun when you are a part of the pack.
Learn things from others. Do things with them.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.
Smile, Be happy. Do things that make others happy.
They don't have to be big things. Little things help, too.
Explain the meaning of Webelos.
We'll Be Loyal Scouts!
Give and explain the Cub Scout sign and handshake.
An example of these can be found in the  Wolf Cub Scout book.
Say the Cub Scout motto.
DO YOUR BEST!
Give the Cub Scout salute and explain what it means.
An example of the Cub Scout salute can be found in the Wolf Cub Scout book.
A salute is a way to show respect to your leaders.  It shows that you look up to them. We salute the American Flag to show respect to our country.
Read and do the activities in "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse:
A Parent's Guide."
This can be found in the front of the  Wolf Cub Scout book.
When a boy has learned these things, his parent approves his work and signs his book. He is then eligible to receive his Bobcat badge at a pack ceremony including his parent. He then begins working on the rank for his grade or age.
