The Pack Council

Main Menu

Each Six in our Pack is lead by a Sixer and a Second. These are usually older Cub Scouts who have additional responsibilities in the Pack. Their role is like a school class captain, house captain or team captain. They are also members of the Pack Council which plans activities. The Pack may also have Senior Sixer whose role is similar to a school captain.

Expectations of a Second...

Not all Seconds end up becoming Sixers however every Second should assist their Sixer and learn their jobs. If a Sixer is away their Second is expected to act in their Sixer's place. This way they will be prepared if they become a Sixer one day.

Pack Council is a meeting of the Sixers, Seconds and the Leaders held approximately once per term. The meeting is chaired by the Cub Scout Leader and agenda items can include...

  • Opening - short prayer by a Sixer
  • Leaders providing information on future and proposed activities
  • Reports from each Six
  • Leaders input on Pack issues
  • Cub Scouts are encouraged to make suggesions for games, activities, outings, camps etc.
  • Feedback from the Pack via the Sixers regarding activities, games, visits, etc.
  • Suggestions for future activities
  • Encouragement of Sixers and Seconds for setting high standards within the Pack
  • Trial run of new games, activities or songs
  • A personal development activity
  • Discussion on ethical issues, leadership problems, case studies
  • Problem Solving
  • Training of Sixers and Seconds in ceremonies, more advanced badgework or Scouting skills
  • Entertainment and eats

When a Cub Scout is appointed to the Pack Council they are given a booklet that outlines their role and duties.
