Conservatism vs. Liberalism

Politics is a very volatile subject. People change sides on topics regularly and on a whim. But what does not change, is the stances that certain demographics (namely conservatives and liberals) take on these issues. The views of these groups vary greatly on many topics; these include abortion, civil rights and religion.

While there are several points that these two groups differ on, seemingly the most prominent is abortion. Abortion is the killing of a baby while it is still in the womb. Usually this is accomplished by sucking the brains out of the baby with a tube. Liberals tend to sway to the side of pro-choice. That means that they support a woman’s’ right to choose whether or not to kill her baby. In other words, they believe that murder is moral. conservatives support the value of pro-life. This means that they support a baby’s right to live. The question is, if the baby of Laci Peterson is being treated as a living being that can be murdered even before it was born, why is abortion considered moral? If a baby is “technically” not alive at the time of abortion, when does it “come to life”? Isn’t part of the definition of “living” to require nourishment and have the ability to grow? If that’s the case, and abortion is moral, then what purpose does the umbilical cord serve? Last time I checked, a baby grows when still in the womb.

Another point of difference is civil rights. Liberals essentially believe that everybody has the right to do everything. For example, we have Nathaniel Jones. He is the 400lb man who attacked a police officer. It ended up taking 6 officers and 3 pairs of handcuffs just to subdue him. But he ended up dying in custody. Black rights groups are demanding restitution for this “outrage”, but what is being left out of their reports is the fact that Mr. Jones was high on PCP and cocaine. PCP alone will increase your strength, making you go from the strength of a 400lb male to that of an 800lb one. Also, an autopsy concluded that he died of a pre-existing heart condition, in conjunction with stress. Conservatives say that the police acted with acceptable force, which is perfectly credible, seeing as how the suspect assaulted a police officer. Let’s say for a second that this was “racism”, if that’s the case, then why don’t civil rights activists speak up whenever a white person is hit by a police officer? I have a feeling that if liberals controlled our government and police, then criminals would run wild without anything to stop them; just like after the Clinton gun control laws.

Finally, we come to our last issue. This one has deep moral implications. It is none other than one’s view towards religion. Liberals are strong opponents to anything that has anything that resembles religion in a PUBLIC arena. Conservatives stand up for family values in public, which would usually entail religious views that would normally get trampled by liberals. For example, at a New York school, a religious group (Lamb’s Chapel) was denied use of school facilities for the showing of Dr. James Dobson’s film, Turn Your Heart Toward Home. Luckily, the U.S. Supreme Court intervened and allowed the film to be shown. The question is, why do Marxist groups get access to school facilities, but religious ones don’t? This is best said by President Ronald Reagan: “We even had to pass a law-pass a special law in the Congress just a few weeks ago-to allow student prayer groups the same access to school rooms after classes that a Young Marxist Society, for example, would already enjoy with no opposition…” Some people would believe that it infringes on their right to “Freedom of Religion” to have student prayers at graduation. Don’t they realize that they can leave during it? They have to remember, it’s “Freedom of Religion”, not “Freedom from Religion.”

So in conclusion, the differences between liberals and conservatives are many, and I’ve only listed a few. But one thing’s for certain: we need to halt the spread of liberalism before America becomes a dictatorship. It’s just like Ronald Reagan said: “…If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.”
