Menes-Legendary Unifier Of Egypt
(3100-2850 B.C.)
The Unification of Upper and Lower Egypt occured around 3100 BC and is credited to Menes.  Menes was said to have founded the capital city of Memphis on the border between Upper and Lower Egypt.  Herodotus and Mantheo wrote his history naming him the first king of Egypt.  Little is known of Menes and his descendants outside of their divine ancestry and that they developed a social system and built statues and buildings.
