JACK COLE
Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball

Gameplay: 8/10

A lot better from what I had expected. You start out on an island which Zack has tricked you to getting on. While your there you play volleyball to earn 'Zacks'. These Zacks can be used to purchase items, swimsuits, and accessories. Some accessories will make your partner like you more, which causes her to do better at volleyball and give you gifts. Losing matches or giving her bad gifts puts a negative on this relationship.

The volleyball is also very fun, although it's quite limited since in the end it's only volleyball. It will be fun at firs, but after that first week it starts to wear off. I only play it every other night for 2 or 3 hours and I have a lot of fun, but if I play longer than that I get bored.

Graphics: 10/10

Excellent! The best I've ever seen in a video game. The girls are modeled highly realistic and move very realistic, too. The lighting effects are also great. When I'm playing volleyball, in this game, I move side to side and it scoops large openings in the sand, and when I move back and forth it puts footprints in. Also the 'bounce' is just right.

Sound: 8/10

The voices in this game are all Japanese, except the FMV sequences with Zack and his girlfriend, but those are not worth watching. The volleyball gameplay voices get annoying after a while, but the voices when 2 girls are talking to each other don't bother me. I wish Tecmo put in an option to change their voices to American.

The music in this is good, if you like girl band music and reggae. There are only 2 songs I really like in this game. Thank god a custom soundtrack feature was put in though. You can even set what music plays at different times of the day.

Controls: 10/10

The controls are the easiest in any game I ever played. Just 2 buttons and 2 sticks (one to move you, one to move your partner). You can also set it to 4 buttons, but I find it much harder.

Overall: 8.5/10

A good quality game that was limited by the fact it was a volleyball game. I think Tecmo did a well job on making it as enjoyable. I recommend you rent it first, because most of the lasting appeal is in collecting.
