.Hey Everyone-- Great effort today. Though we didn't win either game, I think we showed a lot of spirit and talent in the way we played. Again, I think we can be pretty confident that if we meet these same teams in the tournament, there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to beat them. Neither of them was better than us. We just had some bad breaks and momentum changes. For those who weren't able to make it, we played I Dunno first. We had a great cup on defense, and our offense chugged right along as well. At half, it was 8-7 them. Then unfortunately we all misinterpreted Maine's call to score the next 8 points in a row as meaning to let the other team get those points. Once Maine cleared up our little misunderstanding with the game at 14-7, we came back to pull within 2. Then, on a lucky huck, the other team was able to finish us off 15-12. Still, it was a great comeback as long as it lasted, and I think we should be proud of how we played when we were 1 point from defeat. Overall, a great effort and a lot of spirit. We were late for the second game against Huckaway Brain and had to play a man down. Still, we were only down 8-6 at the half, but sort of fell flat and went down 15-6. However, I think it was a valiant effort. Great effort throughout, even if we didn't keep up with them like we might have liked to. Overall, our defensive cup was great in both games. We were really able to give both teams fits, particulary I Dunno in the final points of the first game. It was really impressive that we were able to use a 2-man cup against Huckaway. Man-to-man was not as reliable, but we still really did a great job defensively overall I think. In terms of our offense, we had some great catches, great throws, and great patience. We also had some pretty long completions, and some really well run points. An area that we need to continue to work on for the tournament is our red zone O. When we get close to the goal, we tend to have problems getting it in. Something to work on for both the upcoming tournament and next year. And now, its time for the first weekly CUlty Awards of 2001: The CUlty for Best Dislocation of a Shoulder Blade goes to (drumroll please)....MATT AUSTIN- Other than his inability to set up a field properly, Matt had a great day today. Had a lot of good hucks, some swat downs on D, and some great in the ground catches that were almost godlike (though not quite....it is only Mao after all). Our next category is Best Performance in Stretching Techniques....and the CUlty goes to... MEGAN CALLAGHAN- As half of our mighty female duo, Megan more than pulled her weight for the team today. Not only did she play every point of both games, but she made some key catches, played some great defense, especially in the modified cup of the second game, and did a great job on O in playing deep and either catching a pass for a score or drawing off defenders so another person would be open. This award was presented to megan by the numbers 1 and 2. The CUlty for Best Popping by a Mid goes to... ladies and gentleman, we have a tie...JEFF CRUM and TOM LIDDLE- Both of these guys played awesome today, and were a big factor in our comeback bid in the first game. As the title of their award implies, both made some excellent cuts and more than once helped us break through our opponent's cup. Not to mention making some great throws and playing some kickass D in both games. Best Suggestion for a Cheering Song goes to... RAY GUNGON- Ray was an all-around player in both games, helping pick up the slack when the team really needed it. Good offense, some great aggressive defense...and great spirit as always. Our next CUlty is the HRU Award for Excellence in Being Bipedal and at the Same Time Being From Maine...and the CUlty goes to...ANYA LAGASSE- Maine played awesome today as the other half of our mighty female duo. Not only did she make great catches and throws, not only did she play a vital role as one of our few handlers, but Maine also began our little comeback in the first game with her inspirational reminder that she meant us, not the other team, when she had earlier instructed us to score eight points in a row. She is hereby the official motivational speaker for the team....let it be written, let it be done. In our technical categories, the CUlty for Best Performance in Advising the Next Opponent Where Our Team Is goes to... DAVID WOODY- Woody played really well today, particularly in the second game where he stayed in a good portion of the match. He made some great catches, made some good throws, and played good defense. All in all, a job well done. And the Award for Most Idiotic and Boring Way to Decribe Individual Achievements goes to...me. I'd like to thank the academy, my family and friends, and Ol' Ricketty from I Dunno...without his inspiration, I don't think I could have possibly been as assinine and moronic in this email as I have been. Thanks Ol' Ricketty! Anyways, great effort and spirit out there today guys. Don't get worried about our record- the tournament is the only thing that really counts. These regular season games have been good experiences for us by showing us that we have the ability to win, we just need to execute better so that we don't let games get away from us. There is no reason why we shouldn't be 5-1 now, and I'm confident that if we pull everything together for the tournament, we'll be able to compete and give our opponents a run for their money. Still no decision on next weekend's game...so far I only have Ray, Megan, Anya, Jeff, and myself as able to play. If anyone else wants to, please email us. If not, don't worry about it....we'll just forfeit. Thats not really that big of a deal. Tournament is on the weekend of the 19th and 20th. Those who haven't emailed us back yet letting us know whether you're coming or not need to do so soon. Have a fun finals week, and a great summer if we don't see you before next fall.
