Thanks to everyone who came out to play today... it was a fun time, and it let us rack up yet another win this season. We beat Huckaway Brain by a score of 15-10 after falling behind early 1-6. That means we finish the regular season 8-1... we kicked ass folks! Great job... since last spring, we've been 1-8, 6-3, and now 8-1... now all we have to do is win the championship! It was a small group of us out there on the polo fields this afternoon, but a spirited one. After starting about half an hour late, and having exactly 7 players (with 4 women), we kicked off the game against Huckaway. We started off fairly sluggishly, having some problems with our defense and our patience. But we regrouped, and with the help of late arrivals Alan and Smithers, we were able to take the half 8-7. From there, we never lost the lead, methodically working the disc down the field and shutting down the other team's hucking offense with a strong cup defense. Great job! As for individual accomplishments: Michelle: Even though she was a little tired, Michelle came through for the team, catching everything that was thrown to her and making great decisions both in the cup and on her throws. Megan: Great work in the cup, shutting down Huckaway's long thrower, while spreading out the defense on offense by going long for a couple of really nice grabs (including a falling bid to end the game) Jeanie: Jeanie as always was wonderful keeping the team's spirits up even when we'd fallen behind 6-1. She also was excellent as a wing, shutting off throws, and making some really nice mid distance grabs. Courtney: Coming all the way from Georgetown, Courtney also was someone who had glue for hands today, as she caught almost everything that came her direction. Nice pick up work in the cup as well. Tim: Good effort out there today from Tim, with strong work in the cup and nice middle to deep cuts. Great way to keep playing, even though tired! Jeff Crum: Jeff was our deep defense until Alan's arrival, stopping the long throws when possible, even against tall guy from Huckaway Brain who was well over six feet tall. Also, amazing work on offense, cutting and throwing wise. David: Though a little more sluggish than normal today, Dave had a fine effort out there today, making two deep throws for scores and helping keep the cup going as the center man. Alan: Alan's arrival was the turning point of the game, as his ample skills and role as a sub helped lift the team's spirits. Great handling, great deep work, as always. The MVP of Cultimate. Smithers: Smithers came out and added yet another sub to our team. He was key in helping organize our defense and offense. Thanks Smithers! Anyways, great game and great season. I've truly enjoyed seeing the team grow more competitive and more comfortable with each other over the past few years. Thanks for all your efforts out there... I've had a blast. I encourage everyone who can to come to the tournament next Saturday and Sunday... email Megan if you can make it. I'm sure through her, Michelle, and Kemp's efforts next year, CUltimate will finally win its first championship. Thanks for a great four years! Freshman Dave
