Another great game out there today, folks... its always nice to start the season off 2-0. For those of us who weren't able to make it today, we played Side Hatch to a 14-8 win on a cold and windy morning at Anacostia. We were really in control of the game from point 1, never falling behind Side Hatch and only being tied with them at 4-4 and 5-5. We took the half 8-5, and then proceeded to take control except for a brief period of the game, finishing our opponents off with a 14-8 win. The wind was a big factor in the game, slowing down points and letting Side Hatch hang on a little longer than they probably would have been able to normally. Still, we used our cup to maximum effect in these conditions, forcing Side Hatch to throw an almost continuous stream of hucks, which Jeff and Alan would then so kindly bat out of the air. On the offensive side of things, we had some problems with the wind, and at times a little trouble with our patience, but overall it was a really impressive performance as we were able to get some nice cuts and break through their cup for the score. In terms of individual performances: Megan: Nice job in the cup on defense, even after coming to the game only two hours after returning home from the night before... well done. Tim: Also nice work in the cup, as well as some nice popping cuts and catches, including one or two in the endzone. Crum: Being the all-around player that he is, Jeff was all over the place today, knocking down tons of throws as a short deep and coming through with some beautiful popping cuts on offense. Rob: Rob continues to impress as he picks up the finer points of competitive play in a really short period of time. Nice work in the cup, with a strong force, and good catches and decisions on offense. Erika: Well, no one can say that Erika doesn't have the love for the game... she was bidding all over the place, making some beautiful grabs. Michelle: She handles, she catches, she throws, oh my. Michelle was a great all-around player today, helping out in the cup and as a handler when we needed her. Kemp: As always, Kemp had the obligatory couple of reaching grabs with his obnoxiously long arms. Nice job holding the other team at bay as a wingman, shutting down the openings in the cup. Maine (or is that Erika, or Megan, or Michelle?): Whatever her name is, Anya showed what a great Ultimate player she is today, keeping our offense moving as a handler and making some of her classing falling grabs. Dave: Dave aka Moses aka Monica had some nice diving grabs and catches with about an inch of space between the air and the ground. Jeanie: Mom had a great day out there today, making some really nice catches, including a really tough one in the endzone for a score. Sarge: Nice job handling out there, and great job pulling in the disc, even if that meant having to go horizontal (with a kilt on no less). Galen: Excellent job as a handler, cutting through the wind and finding the open popper against the cup. Also, strong performance as a wing man on D, knocking several discs out of the air. Alan: Throw to a popper, handle the disc, and on defense knock down everything that comes your way. That pretty much sums up Alan's performance today. Great job as a deep man on defense.
