Great game out there yesterday! While it stinks to lose 15-14, it was still anybody's game the entire day, and thats quite an accomplishment considering we had to play a man down half the time. Our improvised zone defense worked pretty well, and we massacred their cup with our patient throws and good pops. Overall, then, a really good game. Of special note was the way we rallied at the end from a 12-14 deficit with a hard cap of 15, all the way to a 14-14 tie where the next point would win. This really was a good first game for us...and we'll only be getting better as the season goes on. We'll be playing Seven Dirty Words one more time in the regular season, and next time with a full compliment of people and a whole season of experience, we're certain to beat them. Some individual highlights: Ray: Great play out there today, both offensively and defensively. Ray smacked an opposition throw out of the air, and caught two crucial diving catches (are there any other kind?) that let us score two points. Great job. Jeff: Nice way working the cup with some great pop cuts. Always in the thick of things, Jeff helped the team move the disc down the field and was a key part of the modified zone defense. Sean: Not only did Sean make several key defensive blocks, including one in the other team's endzone with the score 14-13, not only did he make some great throws and catches, but he also did a fine job of completing his freshman initiation without getting hit in the head with a disc(barely). Nice job. Galen: Nice play out there today. Good patience with throws, some really nice passes, including a few into the endzone that were perfectly timed and thrown. An all around good effort. Well done. Matt: As always, great throws and catches, and excellent leadership on the field. Matt was a key handler throughout the game, and put in some fine defensive work both as the force on our modified zone and as a cover man in our man-to-man defense. Anya: Half of the female dynamic duo, Maine came through when the team needed her. Great work as a handler, nice covering of the stack during our modified zone defense, and a number of good sliding catches that helped our offensive drives keep going. And nice stamina, too, by the way. Megan: The other half of our dynamic duo, Megan also came through for the team by staying in the game the whole day and yet still playing excellently well. Nice cuts, nice throw, and some nice endzone plays. Great job. Alan: Great playing out there today, as usual. Alan helped carry the team with his handling skills, getting the disc through the cup to poppers and moving the offensive drive down the field. Also, a number of really nice defensive stops as the long man on our modified zone. Dave: Two beautiful catches in the endzone, nice pop cuts, and one or two defensive blocks. Way to work the cup. Again, great game everyone. We avoided our traditional trap of blowing the game for a 1/4 of the game just enough so that we couldn't come back. In contrast, our play was consistent, patient, and pretty damn good. A nice start to the season. We won't be having any WAFC games the next two weekends due to other tournaments. Next game will be September 29...you'll here from us then.
