Canon
So bye, bye Miss American Pie
I want to be forever young
In your eyes.
Let me go on like I blister in the sun
Come on Barbie, let's go party
Big hands I know you're the one.
I have a secret to tell
It starts with an earthquake, birds, snakes, and aeroplanes
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
Istanbul is Constantanople
Tunak Tunak Tun Ta Ra Ra.
I don't want anybody else
My brown-eyed girl
Sha la la la la la
I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy.
Someday we'll find it
Istanbul, Istanbul.
I see the light and heat
It's the end of hte world as we know it
I can't remember if I cried
Heaven help me
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies.
Have you been half-asleep?
I'm high as a kite
Have you heard voices?
Listen to yourself churn
The room must listen to me
Life is a mystery.
Let's dance in style, let's dance for awhile
I saw you dancing in the gym.
Twist and shout.
I met a girl who sang the blues
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
Nightswimming
We were singing
Die, die, die, die
Live, live, live, live
Sex, sex, sex, sex
It's the pelvic thrust that makes you go insane.
I'm so strung out
All that glitters is gold
As we wind on down the road.
Let's do the time warp again.
Back to CTY Main Page
This is my favorite poem from my CTY collection.  Yes, it blatantly steals lyrics from Canon songs, but that is the idea.  I'm still amazed by how coherent it is.  And it has a funny story attached.  I read it to one of my halls and my RA said I should read it to Tim Schmidt, the site director at Carlisle, to see if I could read it at closing ceremonies.  Apparently, the drug and sex references did not please good ole Tim.  He also feared frightening parents, so the closing ceremonies did without me and my poem.  However, I did eventually take part in a couple of closing ceremonies.  There was Julius Caesar the Musical--The Rapscallions of Doom production of Molly and Steph's play, reprised from the Talent Show for closing ceremonies.  And, my nomore year, I revised this poem a little bit (Essentially, I took out the sex, but left the drugs) and submitted it to the new site director, Robert--a very cool dude.  He loved it, I read it.  All was good.  Funny thing, I got to the part with Die Die Die, Live Live Live, Sex Sex Sex during my reading and I had cut the Sex Sex Sex bit all the way through the Strung Out bit.  I read it as Live Live LIve And All that Glitters is Gold....all the CTYers laughed...They knew full well what was missing.  So in short, I didn't feel so bad about compromising my art.  Good closure, too.
