| I have been to many New York Mets games at Shea Stadium over the years. From 1996 through 1999, I had tickets, first 2 and then 3, to every Mets Sunday home game. With the kids getting older and becoming involved in sports themselves, it became difficult to make some of the games, so for the 2000 season (Yes, I know, the year of the subway series!) we gave up the seats. That's OK, because in 2000 we discovered the joy of minor league baseball. Prior to 2000, we had been to 3 minor league games, two in Trenton, NJ to see the Double A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Trenton Thunder, and one in Montclair, NJ to see the New Jersey Jackals in the independent Northern League. In April 2000, I planned a trip for the week that the kids were on break to Binghamton, NY and Scranton and Reading, PA to see games and sightsee. We fell in love with minor league and independent baseball, for many reasons: *Ballparks that are each charming in their own way, some that are simply amazing *Games that are just as exciting as major league games, and in some cases, more so *Seats close to the action *Players who are generous with their time with kids *Limited crowds and traffic *Reasonable prices |
