Pawtucket, RI - McCoy Stadium
The Park McCoy Stadium is home to the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Triple A affiliate of Boston. The park seats about 10,000, but I opted for a standing room seat and watched the game from many vantage points. I walked around the narrow aisle high up behind the last row in the stands, stopped on each level of the stairway in left field, spent some time in the outfield behind left and center, walked around the aisle in the stands closest to the field, and ended up in the picnic area in right field. I thoroughly enjoyed this stadium. It was a full house, so there were no parking spaces left in the lot. I had no trouble finding a spot on the street two blocks away.
That Day I saw the Pawsox, as the team is sometimes called, play the Rochester Red Wings, the Baltimore Orioles Triple A team, at noon on August 2, 2001. They played a day/night doubleheader that day, but rather than stick around Pawtucket, I drove to New Britain for an evening game, stopping in Norwich on the way. Rochester scored in the 1st on a sacrifice fly by Steve Sisco. Pawtucket tied it in the 2nd on an RBI single by John Shave. Sisco drove in another run in the 3rd with a single. The Pawsox kept pace with an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd. Rochester jumped ahead with two runs in the 4th. Shave tried to keep his team in the game with a homer in the bottom of the inning. That was all the scoring Rochester won, 4-3.
