The Park
Oldsmobile Park is home to the Lansing Lugnuts, the Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs in the Midwest League.  I forgot to pack my camera on this trip, so I used a disposable one.  Too bad, because this park is something to behold.  It is below street level!  One can walk on the sidewalk outside the stadium and see the action through the fence.  Inside, one can walk just about all the way around the perimeter of the field.

The mascot is Big Lug, some sort of dragon.  Id like to see the team adopt its logo as the mascot, however difficult it may be for the character to walk around.
That Day
I saw the Lugnuts play the Cedar Rapids Kernels, a California Angels affiliate, on August 29, 2000.  Not only did I not have a good camera, but also I arrived in the 3rd inning, so I didnt keep score.  I have the next days newspaper account and the box score, but they dont always tell the whole story.  For instance, although this is not mentioned in the paper, I believe that both starting pitchers had no hitters into the 5th.  (At least one did, Im sure. Anyway, they each pitched 8 innings.)  In the top of the 6th, with Kernels on 1st and 2nd, the Lugnuts turned a triple play, the first one in team history and the first one I ever saw.  (My son turned one recently in our towns baseball league.  He caught a line drive and stepped on 1st for 2 of the 3 outs.)  Lansing scored a few runs, but Cedar Rapids tied it in the top of the 8th on a 2-run HR by third baseman Miguel Ortiz.  Lansing took the lead in the bottom of the 8th on a double by third baseman Ryan Gripp to win, 3-2.
Don't forget your camera, like I did.
Big Lug.
A ride.
