Hagerstown, MD - Municipal Stadium
The Park
Hagerstown was the second stop of an August 9, 2001 doubleheader with my older daughter.  The first stop was Wilmington, DE.  Hagerstown is home to the Suns, the South Atlantic League (Single A) affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.  We arrived about 10 minutes before the game.  Municipal Stadium, built in 1931, has charm.  The grandstand is old, with a spiral staircase leading to the press box on its roof.  In the right field corner, on the wall just into foul territory, is a large mural of Babe Ruth, whose sister lived in Hagerstown.  The picnic area down in left is named for Hall of Famer Nellie Fox, who was born and is buried in nearby St. Thomas, PA.  The mascot, a sun, is one of the more original ones Ive seen.  It is much better than these non-descript cutesy monsters that most teams have.

One interesting feature is a walkway behind the first few rows and dugout on the first base side.  Many fans stand in the walkway, and rest their elbows and beers on the roof of the dugout as they watch the action.

My thanks to the girl who worked in the souvenir booth, who was patient with my daughter and the 5 trips she took deciding what to buy.  (She opted for a tank top.)
That Day
The Suns, or I should say Nick Wilfong (former major leaguer Robs son?) beat the Lakewood (New Jersey) BlueClaws, a Phillies affiliate, 9-2.  Wilfong, the Suns left fielder, went 3 for 4, with a grand slam, a 2-run single, 2 runs scored and 6 RBI.  Third baseman Derek Bell drove in another 2 for Hagerstown.

On the way home, we stopped at a McDonalds that had a conveyor belt to bring the food from the kitchen across the seating area to a booth where the drive-thru employee was stationed.

Hagerstown made it to the postseason in 2001, but was eliminated in the first round by the Lexington Legends.
