The Park
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Comerica Park.  My seat was in the upper deck in left field, but I never got there.  Instead, I spent the 3 hours walking around the concourse that surrounds the entire field, taking in the game from every vantage point available.  Aside from the level of play, I felt like I was in a minor league ballpark.  Theres a food court, complete with a merry-go-round on which one rides the tiger.  Tucked away in another courtyard, near a restaurant/bar, is a ferris wheel, with baseball-shaped baskets.  On the concourse in left, under the scoreboard, are statues of great Detroit Tigers of the past.  To make fans feel at home, some sections in the lower level have wood chairs two to a box, with a small wood coffee table in between.  The scoreboard, fountain in centerfield and the view of the city past them are all impressive.

A pre-recorded message from Billy Crystal was played on the scoreboard, inviting fans to come to the teams old home, Tiger Stadium, for the taping of scenes for a movie.  Turns out, the movie was 61, the tale of Roger Maris which aired in 2001.  Unfortunately, that was my last night in town, for I would have liked to see that ballpark.
That Day
On August 7, 2000, I saw the Tigers play the Baltimore Orioles.  The Orioles scored in the 3rd on a walk by Brady Anderson, a double by Melvin Mora, and a single by Delino DeShields.  The hit scored Anderson, but Detroit CF Juan Encarnacion threw Mora out at home.  Detroit tied it in the bottom of the inning.  In the 4th, Jeff Conine tripled and scored on a Brook Fordyce sac fly, which Encarnacion dropped to allow Fordyce to reach second.  Anderson hit a solo HR in the 5th to put the Os ahead 3-1.  Detroit came back, scoring in the 6th on a leadoff HR by Dean Palmer.  With one out, Detroit loaded the bases, but failed to score.  In the 7th, pinch-hitter Billy McMillon tied it at 3 with a double.  Baltimore took the lead in the 9th on a double by Chris Richard, groundout by Fordyce and a sac fly by Ivanon Coffie.  Detroit went quietly in the 9th to Baltimore the 4-3 win.
