The Games 1) We (my 3 kids and I) saw the Surf play the now defunct Aberdeen (Maryland) Arsenal on August 11, 2000. Former Major Leaguer Tommy Helms was the Surfs manager. Darrell Evans, former Brave and Tiger, led the Arsenal. Simply put, the Surf kicked butt, 13-2. The Arsenal took a 1-0 lead in the 1st, on 2 singles. Dave Steed, who scored that run, scored the only other run for Aberdeen, after doubling in the 6th. The Surfs leadoff hitter, Chance Sanford, homered to tie the game in the 1st. A few batters later, cleanup hitter Hector Villanueva, who saw some time in the majors, homered to give the Surf the lead for good. Joe Rodriguez homered for the Surf in the 2nd. 3-1. Villanueva homered again in the 4th, when AC batted around and scored 5 runs. On the day, he drove in 5 runs, scored 3, hit a single, double, the 2 homers and reached on an error. For those of you thinking he came oh so close to a cycle, you must not have ever seen him run.
