Governor Rell signed off today
on the implementer bill which included language submitted by
Connecticut Speaker of the House Jim Amann. The language, as
previously reported consists of the following:
Sec.
48. Section 20-334d of the general statutes is amended by adding
subsection (d) as follows (Effective from passage):
(NEW) (d) Any plumber who has served an apprenticeship that included
at
least seven hundred hours of related classroom instruction shall be
exempt
from any continuing education requirement established pursuant to
subsection
(c) of this section.
Sec. 49. Section 29-6b of the general statutes is repealed and the
following
is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2005):
This is an explanation of the language in the legislative research
report.
§ 48 - CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR PLUMBERS
This bill exempts plumbers who have served apprenticeships that
included at
least 700 hours of related classroom instruction from continuing
education
requirements. By law, the Department of Consumer Protection
commissioner
must adopt regulations to establish requirements for accredited
continuing
professional education for plumbers. They require plumbers to take at
least
three and as much as nine hours of continuing education per year,
depending
on the type of license the plumber holds.
EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon passage
I expect The Department of
Consumer will have input to the above.
Jim Amann went out of his way to
insert this language for some reason.
Please take the time to thank
elected officials who tried their best to overturn the original
legislation.
Special thanks are in order to
Senator Tom Colapietro a man of his word
