    My Name is Murray Renshaw, 247 Shaw St. New London, Conn. I have been a licensed plumber in the State of Connecticut for 34 years. Recently, The above referenced Act was made law. There are 8,000 plumbers in the State of Connecticut - 99 percent of us knew nothing about this proposal until it the legislation was enacted. A group has formed to try and repeal the law. We requested, and received the transcript of the law committee meeting at which 3 of the 8,000 plumbers in the state attended. Commissioner, I think you're well aware of the fine reputation the Consumer Protection Division in Connecticut enjoys. 
    Recommendations Consumer Protection makes are highly regarded by committees who are in the decision making chain. After reading the transcripts, we discovered one of the gentleman who testified at the law committee perhaps spoke on behalf of your department. We believe that testimony erroneously influenced the decision made that day by the law committee. We believe this to be a very serious issue.
