| Tips for Psychic Development |
| Spirit generally speaks in a whisper, and often in symbols. Working with a tool such as the Tarot will get you accustomed to interpretting symbolism. Keeping a spiritual journal should greatly aid your development. Notice the little signs that spirit will send and acknowledge them in your journal. Meditation is very important. Experiment with different traditions until you find something that resonates within as being right for you! Many people begin a path of psychic development and abandon it weeks or months later when they realize that progress doesn't happen overnight, and that there is actual work involved. If you decided to run in a marathon, reading books about jogging and marathons would be helpful, but eventually, you'd have to get out there and start jogging. Psychic development is the same way--reading books on the tarot and psychic development is helpful. But the best way to learn and to improve is to jump in and get your feet wet. Start doing practice readings on your friends and relatives as soon as possible. You'll learn much more quickly that way. And if you can find a group to work with, so much the better. As with anything else in life, what you get out of this will be a reflection of what you put into it. If you meditate haphazardly and only work with your psychic tools on occasion, you won't likely get the same result as someone who meditates daily and works with their psychic tools at least once or twice a week. When you are lucky enough to have a teacher cross your path, learn all that you can from them, while you can. Spiritual mentors have a way of moving on as they follow their own path. All too soon, they have gone to a new place where they are needed--so enjoy them while you can. You don't have to be spiritual to be psychic, but it certainly helps. You might be laboring under the misconception that you can't develop psychicly because you aren't some cosmic cream puff who comes floating into the room all full of sweetness and light. Don't worry--the harder your life has been, the greater your chances are of developing psychicly. The best psychics I've met had childhoods that were not joyful. Usually, there is separation from at least one parent due to death or divorce. Alcoholism or mental illness could be a problem in the family. Psychics are very familiar with pain, that is one of the reasons they are able to connect to others. Remember, pain is what draws people closer to God, and hence, to themselves. People in pain go inward--and that is where your psychic ability resides. A Cherokee medicine man once gave me a long list of the most common traits or conditions of his best students. The list included such goodies as: lonely childhood, sleep disorders, ADD, alcoholism in family, etc. You get the idea! Speaking of pain, when you first start getting psychic impressions, they will most likely be of a painful or negative nature. Those vibrations are easier to sense and interpret somehow. Don't worry, you'll start feeling the positive ones more and more as time goes on. Over the years, I have spent good money on lectures, classes, and retreats. I learned a lot on these adventures. Where are my notes from the early days now? Who knows? With all my moving, they got lost. What I wouldn't give for my notes on some of those fascinating lectures! Take care of your notes, hand-outs, etc. Put them in a binder, take care of them. Something that doesn't seem important now may be very important ten years from now. No matter how much you learn, never assume that you have learned all that you need to know. Keep an open mind. |
