My First Seance
While I was growing up, my mother's friend Beverly often told me that she thought I had mediumship ability.
I didn't mind developing psychic ability, or learning astrology & tarot.  But there was something about talking to dead people that just freaked me out, and I never wanted any part of it.

When I was a teen, my mother and I suddenly got this bright idea that we would have a seance--without Beverly.
In retrospect, I can see how incredibly stupid this was, but at the time, it seemed like the thing to do. LOL

I still had a lot of fear about talking to the spirits because of my misconceptions about how it works.  I never discussed the details of the process with Beverly because of my closed mindedness on the subject.

Beverly always put a candle, a Bible, and a glass of water on the table before each seance.  Then there was a prayer that she said, which she had written down for us.

Mom, my brothers, and I sat at the table.  After I said the prayer, one of my brothers said something really corny like "If there are any spirits here who want to talk to us, please let your presense be known."  Big mistake!

All of a sudden, our kitchen was like the set of a B movie.
The temperature immediately dropped about 20 degrees,
the flame of the candle went leaping up by several inches and began shooting sparks all over the table.  We all got really scared and started looking around fearfully, dreading the moment that we might see a ghost, or something worse.

It didn't take long for me to realize that this wasn't something to be playing around with.  Mom and I put an end to it.  We said prayers to send the spirits back, and I have never undertaken anything like this since.

Much later, I was able to put aside my fear and prejudice long enough to talk about what the process of communicating wih the other side is like.  Although I was assured that it had nothing to do with seeing ghosts flying around your house, I still retained a lot of fear about it.

It is something that I pushed aside and didn't want to look at until recently.
