| BOOK REVIEWS Short Street Jodie Andrefski's Review in Circle Magazine Mid West Book Review Short Street is an anthology of 28 stories by Timothy Gager. These are imaginative tales, set along "Short Street" where junkies, drunks, deadbeats and worse are neighbors live alongside decent people struggling to survive and intractibly stubborn individuals. People struggle to cope with demons within and without, from a father deseperately searching for his daughter's killer to a teenage junkie on the brink of a second chance. Short Street explores the facets of the human condition, some hopeful, some grim, all unforgettable. Then you get back up to get plowed all over again. Poet and short-story writer Timothy Gager is well acquainted with this feeling, which is quite evident in his love poems about morning sex, and ruining a younger woman. With easy to read prose that takes the reader along on many journies with interesting characters, it's easy to see why these books were published. Sadness, mingled with slightly sinister intentions and at tiems, an eventual trun toward the positive, Timothy's stories are well worth the time. They were certainly worth my time indeed What other authors think of Timothy... Renee Angers, CEO BRAINPAN PUBLISHING Timothy Gager hasn't disappointed me yet. Both his books are great reads. His books make me feel like I want become involved in a fist fight....I adore his work. James Musgrave, Author of Sins of Darkness, Just Before the Final Solution, Russian Wolves, Lucifer's Wedding This work is surprisingly good, and I look forward to many more realistic portrayals of working class people from Mr. Gager. He is working on becoming the next Raymond Carver. Vic Phillips, Author of Nightlights Timothy's tales are seasoned to my tastes: skewed just off senter, but utterly believable. Admit it-we all recognize these people and places. We know them with other names, for sure, but we damned well know them. Good stuff. Dr. Bob Rich, Author of Sleeper Awake, Striking Back from Down Under Clearly, Timothy Gager is a competent and articulate writer with a keen eye for observing human nature, and are blessed with a wry sense of humor. There is a big market for writing that mercilessly exposes the seamy side of society, and he does this very well. www.bobswriting.com David Barringer, Author of The Leap and Other Mistakes Mr. Gager's books are truly sad, funny, and grotesque. I must read them all. Andrew K. Stone, Author of All Flowers Die and Disappearing Into View Timothy Gager writes form the heart, soul and gut. His no-holds barred style permeates through these stories of tangled relationships, reminding us that love and life are multi-faceted, filled with sorrow and joy, pain, and pleasure Victoria Taylor Murray, Author of nine mystery novels I personally recommend "Twenty-Six Pack" by Timothy Gager. His book is a prize in fiction, truly a MUST READ. This talented writer does not disappoint! From out of his gut and onto the pages of this very entertaining book, you will spend hours being throughly entertained INTERVIEW LINKS The Somerville News 7/7/05 Lil's Experimental Zine Vonderart, The World's Writers The Wide Thinker Interview by Kaya Casper |
