As I kept on editing all the video clips and sound together until the night of 10/11/2003, I then councluded my task with compression. According to Andrew Whiteford suggestion, he said that if I want to compress into size for VCD movie I have to go for this following option:

VDO size: 352 x 288

Compression: Indeo Video 5.11 or 5.10

Audio setting: 41,000 KB, 16 bit stereo

The reason I intend to keep my movie as VCD because my computer at home has no DVD burner thus it would be impossible to put the DV size movie into a single CD.

However, after the compression, the file size for my movie is reduced to 430 MB but when the file was transferred onto a CD and play through Window Media Player, the VDO become kind of jerking. I may have to discuss about this problem with Andrew in the next day.

Some of the images within VDO, the one that have their running time modified, appeared to be in pixel image. This may be because that I have altered and then compress them straigthaway. I thus have to do the speed adjustment and then saved them as the uncompressed VDO so that they will be edited together. Therefore, all the VDO for the final editing must have a 100% running speed and they have to be an uncompressed files.

11/11/2003 (Major project presentation day)

The day we have our major project to be presented in front of all the students from 2nd EDIM and other multimedia teachers and students. Each of us have 25 minutes of presentation. I was the 6th person to make a presentation. As far as I can see the others, they all have well prepare for the talk about they project as they are able to discribe in detail of what they have achieved and learn from their project. With me, because I spent most of my time with editing, I did not have time to write any speech for presentation.

As it comes to my turn, I firstly started by copying my VDO file into harddrive because it will run a lot better. Then run the movie.

All the audieneces have make an applaud respond to my movie. Nevertheless, because I have been unprepared for the presentation, I showed them little about my process in making this movie, thus they have to learn about the process through this website by themselves.

I asked the problem about compression with Andrew as well as showing the screen grabe of the my compression area. He said that within the keyframe and rendering section for the "export timeline into movie" area, I have to choose "no field" for the field rendering. I could not exactly remember why but this may be because of that the option
"Upper field" and "Lower field" may only be applied for the movie that will be shown through TV screen.

13/11/2003

I start doing the modification for all the clips that have been altered within the running speed, thus allowing the qulity of the movie to be better than the one that is displayed on the presentation day.

The credit sections of the movie were done in photoshop with higher resolution because I don't want to create any more of the movie clips.

With the compression, I have done in 3 version which are 2 AVI and 1 MOV. The MOV. or quicktime is used for my interview for my RMIT course which will be tomorrow and because of the huge amount of file size I have to keep the image resolution to be in the lowest resolution. With 2 AVI, one is using Indeo Video 5.10 compression, which I kept for my own while the other use DIVX codec, a compression that allowing the file to be smaller and yet able to playe the VDO in high quality.

The VDO with DIVX codec will be used for the night of the expo which will be on the night of 18/11/2003, Gordon TAFE gallery.

And so this is the end of the journal. Thanks for following the progress of my work. I have learn the further process in using particle system and animating technique in Lightwave 3D as well as learning the new editing program like Adobe premiere 6.5. Hope that in the future I will be able to learn more about all these multimedia programs that allowing me to reach the professional level.

Thank you for being with me in this journal.
