Looking from south-east corner of the property. The house is built on sand stone fundation. Three layers of bricks. Two big front windows are original while other windows (except basement) were replaced with Pella Designer Series windows with double pane and between-the-glass blinds in some of them. First level window sills are covered by alluminum, so are the wood beams on top of the front porch and under side of roof overhang.
It is a absolutely gorgeous built-in unit. Luckily they only painted inside of it. Each side of the hatch, there is a built-in trunk for storing toys or other things. I can believe some one was stupid enough to screw a track light on to the wood beam. Each cross section of the wood beams is wired and controlled by a wall switch. The pendant light is just one of those from Home Depot and did not go with the house at all. Sooner or later it will be replaced by something nicer.
At some point, it was converted to a gas burning fireplace. I don't even want to know where they found the tiles. The top is made of a hollow box that almost came off the wall and it's way too high. It will be replaced with a better looking mantle when the time comes. The pendant light seems to be victorian style, so is the molding near the ceiling. According to a architect who lives a few houses down the street, people built the house did not quite know what exact style they wanted. So they mixed Arts and Crafts style with some victorian style in wood trims. I found the exact wood trim in several Arts and Crafts books that were used in our house..
Every door was painted white when we moved in. I did not know whether it was just something easy to do or it was a trend or they got a killer deal on the white paint or what. All the doors are made of heart pine with either flat panel or raised panel construction. The front door has three beveled glasses. Each the cross section of the beams is wired and covered by a upside down pyrimid shaped brass with a ring on the tip for hanging light.
This is a room next to the living room and has a window looking out the front of the house. Somehow the previous owners managed to disguise the room by putting in two shelves on both sides of the window. They were nailed on the wall and painted white. The wood frame around the big front window was destroyed/removed. What hell were they thinking? That pink curtain goes well with the wood, huh?
Yah, you can see where they came from with that pink curtain. Once you painted everything white, it did not look too bad.
