12/10/2003 Hacker Steals Half-Life 2 source code
  1. Half-Life 2 is the most eagerly awaited game of the year, and the ease at which a hacker was able to break into the developer's system is worrying. The theft appears to have been planned with expert precision. The thief designed a virus to target HL2's software developer Valve. The virus delivered a "Keystroke Recorder" program into the computer of Valve's founder, Gabe Newell, last month to spy on his activity. This enabled the hacker to see everything that Newell did, looked at and typed into his computer. By last weekend the hacker had collected enough information to steal the source code for HL2. Days later the hacker released a playable version on the internet. Valve are now frantically trying to track down the playable version and the hacker. Valve have asked for help from anyone who knows anything about this hack, and you can email them at '[email protected],' and who knows, you might even get a free copy of the game when it's eventually released! 4. Site News Today I've decided to feature downloads of maps on this site, and there will be a limited number available as soon as I can upload them. If there are any you especially want you can email me here. Please do this as I will not be able to upload every single map there is due to a lack of server space. Thanks.
