| My stance on GLBT rights | ||||
| Ohio's stance on GLBT rights is hurting us socially and economically. Businesses refuse to come here because of our anti-gay laws. Teachers don't want to teach in our public schools and students don't want to come here to study. This all effects Ohio's ability to operate successfully as a state. I support the rights of two people, regardless of sex to marry. I think the government should let religion define marriage and the State should be concerned with civil unions for everyone. I am a member of the GBLT caucus and recieved their endorsement with this statement, "Let me tell you a little bit about why I think I deserve the caucus's endorsement. I am a strong supporter of equal rights regardless of sexual orientation. I voted yes on the repealing of DOMA and its veto override vote. I have co-sponsored every piece of legislation that I could find regarding the rights of same-sex couples to marry, end discrimination in the workplace, and so on. My opponent did not vote on the override, but voted against repealing DOMA. Many of you in the caucus know me and know that I am a strong supporter of complete and total gay rights. I will work to repeal the Constitutional amendment that our state passed that banned marriage and civil unions." |
