Inspirational or off-the-head thoughts from the community

Untitled

It's the end of the holidays. A new beginning for all of us. New faces, new friends, new relationships and perhaps new resolutions.

"This sem is going to be a brand new beginning for me, Kim." Joe said with clenched teeth. " I am going to zap my readings as soon as I get the reading list!"

"Like hell you are, Joe! That's what you said last sem.!" "And the sem before…and the sem before" the whole gang chorused.

"Well, this sem is going to be different," Joe's eyes were glistening. "I'm very sure of that. It has to be different, I really need to pass this sem."

"So what had you been doing, Joe? Being a professional bummer?" Kim teased. " You couldn't have done any studying, nor worked right?

"Ha! I was working!" He replied smugly.

"Yah right, where? Or do you mean working out at Planet fitness?" Pauline pinched Joe's arm. "Nope, not that either." Joe scowled at the cheeky laughter.

" Ahem, well, I am effectively a part-time property agent now." Reaching to his pocket, he started distributing his name cards.

" Property agent? Hm…ok, so what are we doing later?" Joyce asked out loud, and absentmindedly placed Joe's name card on the table.

" Whatever you guys are doing, count me out. I said I am going to zap my notes, remember?" Joe whined.

" Well, up to you. Cos' we are catching a movie." Kim winked at Joyce.

"Fine! So much for being friends. But what about the welcome tea? We are meeting the freshies right?

" Oh yah! Where is the Arts FCG meeting? As109? Are we going?" Pauline was crossing her fingers.

" I think we should go, besides Jolyne would be there." Sean swooned.

" But its so boring! Oh come on Sean, she doesn't even know you exist!" Joe poked Sean's chest.

" Not to mention you are attached, my dear boy!" Kim laughed.

" Yah yah, so I am. Nearly forgot about that." Sean said under his breath.

" But what are we supposed to do anyway?" Joe asked with distaste.

" You know, the usual propaganda. What is Arts FCG? Its role. The weekly cell group meetings. The activities in CSS. And basically be a mentor and friend to these kiddies." Joyce said knowingly.

"Right. Let's see, hm…wait a minute, the AGM is coming first right? We need these freshies to stand up and run for office eh?"

" Ahhuh, that is very important. The comm last year would be stepping down, and we really need new blood and faces to carry on, and besides it would be a great way to do a little bit for the community and church." Kim said.

" True true, I really enjoyed my stint in Arts FCG in my first year." Sean looked up.

" Anyway, we gotta tell them that we would have our fund raising fair. The last 2 years of kachiang puteh sales were pretty good eh. Not to mention …erm fun…" Joe smacked his lips, which seemed to be drooling.

" Don't forget to mention the year end retreat as well…oh oh oh, and the Christmas bash! Last year's programs were really great eh." Pauline joined in.

" Should we mention about the Catholic Awareness Week?" Joe asked.

"Duh! Of course! It's one of the 4 main projects CSS has in the work year!" Kim chided.

" Show-off, know-it-all!" Joe muttered.

" We gotta let them know that we are involved in FOC, CAW and Matric Fair. We would need everyone's effort at these 3 events." Kim added.

" Well, what else would you like us to tell them, Miss Know-it-all?" Joe teased.

" How about telling them about CG?" Kim prompted.

" CG? Well, I ain't letting one more come in mine. We already have about 10 members. In fact, I am going to split them up, as soon as Pauline is ready to be a CGL." Joyce said. Pauline stuck out her tongue.

" Give me some more time, I need to discern some more. Stop rushing me!"

" But I think we have a responsibility to get as many freshies, and seniors likewise to join CG. Remember how it was for us when we just got into Nus? We had no friends and no one to eat lunch with. Luckily we joined Joyce's CG." Sean said as he put his arms around Joe.

" Yah right, and since then you never stop doing that!" Joe cringed.

" Anyway, the CG sessions really provided us with a time to get in touch spiritually with God. With the bible-study, praise and worship and of course praying." Pauline loyally added.

" Yap, if not I really would be too lazy to do all these on my own." Sean said sheepishly.

" Did we leave out anything? Oops, nearly forgot. The weekly masses on Fridays at 6pm. That is very important gang." Kim said.

" Ok, so later meet outside Lt9 at 6? I'm so serious, not going to join you guys for any movie!" Joe insisted.

" Don't worry, we were just teasing you. We will all zap the soci notes together later kaez? Joyce laughed.

"But now, how about going for rosary? Its nearly 1pm." Joyce prompted.

"Oh you guys go ahead, I have Econs lecture now, I will go on Wednesday and Friday instead." Kim said.

"oh ok, so we see you later at Css corner?" Joe asked.

"Ahhuh, see you people later."

And with that, that group walked together off to a new start.
